The Tough Guy. Lány, Spring 1990

The caption in my book Havel reads: “In a fast official BMW, with personal bodyguards trailing behind.” That’s exactly how it was. Václav Havel, who always loved driving, found himself in a stalemate the moment he became president. This joy—like many others—was taken away from him. He did manage to negotiate one thing: he would always sit in the front passenger seat next to the driver (which made the security service “sweat”), but he was no longer allowed to drive himself.

In the spring in Lány, he managed to get behind the wheel to test just how fast that BMW could go. I was sitting in the back, and it was the first time in my life I ever came close to a speed of 200 km/h…

Product detailed description

EDITION 17×17 is a collection of photographs presented in a clean, minimalist style, offered as artifacts in a compact, smaller, and more affordable format.

This photograph from the 17×17 edition is mounted in a wooden frame with a 1 cm profile, made of natural oak. The image size is 10 × 15 cm. The total frame size is 26 × 26 cm. The photograph is mounted in a white mat with a beveled cut. Some versions are presented in a frame with a three-centimeter depth, adjusted so that the photograph appears to “float” or hover in space (see photo).
The frame glass features a UV-protective layer, so-called museum glass. The photograph is signed on the reverse side and accompanied by a caption stating the place and date of origin. The author’s signature on the back of the photograph is also visible within the frame.

As the author of the photographic work, I always strive—beyond the visual experience—to provide the highest possible technical quality of production at a top gallery level. I print my photographs on archival papers by the German company Hahnemühle or the French company Canson, which meet the highest standards for preservation and quality. All materials are archival and pH-neutral. When displaying photographs, I recommend observing standard practices—meaning that the photograph (like a painting or print) should not be exposed to direct sunlight, moisture, or high temperatures.

The photographs are intended for personal use only, for display in homes or other private spaces. Any other form of use—such as display in public spaces, institutions, publication online or in print/media, or any other use—is permitted only with the author’s written consent.
